Hi, I am Sofya Brown, your certified Soil Foodweb Lab-Tech.
My first introduction to the world of microscopic critters took place in high school while doing a research on water pollution. Later, as a part of my Environmental Engineering degree, I took a microbiology course at Jacksonville University. My favorite part of that course was making a batch of yogurt, analyzing the microbiological content of it, and eating it at the end!
My journey as an Environmental Scientist took me through many avenues, including projects on remediation of polluted soil and water, renewable energy initiatives, environmental justice, and my favorite, permaculture (I love growing food!)
I earned my EIT (Engineer-In-Training) certification from Florida Board of Professional Engineers, and received my Permaculture Design Course certificate from the Starwalker Project. I studied soil microbiology at Dr. Elaine’s™ Soil Food Web School, and got certified as a Lab-Tech. Currently, I am undergoing a Soil Foodweb Consultant Training Program.
On our homestead in Lawtey, FL, we tend to our food forest and run a small farm business growing seeds and plant starts using biological methods.
Through my work at Compost Power Lab, I would like to share my passion for soil regeneration and the power it has in stabilization of the climate, purification of water, and production of nutrient-dense food.
